Happy Patriot Day! Most people do not know that 9/11 is a “sort of” holiday in the US (uh, that is, a “discretionary day of remembrance”). We’re supposed to honor… something… but we don’t get the day off. Lame, I know. Whatever keeps the banks from closing, I guess.
The irony of the neo-conservatives in this country baffles me. They stand for faith-based initiatives to replace some of the “do goody” aspects of a failing government. They want churches to take over the role of things like Medicaid, FEMA, etc. I’m all in favor of downsizing the American empire and its global hegemony, but to leave it entirely in the hands of those who suffer from, to quote The Architect, “the quintessential human delusion”? I submit that it was a faith-based initiative that caused those planes to hit the towers, and a faith-based initiative which caused them to fall. One could even say it was a pseudo-faith-based initiative that has lead to the war on terror, which is essentially a holy war of sorts anyway. Imagine no religion, folks. John Lennon was right.
Whether you view it as an inside job or not, the attack was brutal and unwarranted. I question this country’s reaction to it. I felt it was made in haste by ill-informed despots. And you and I will be stuck with a three trillion dollar tab for it all. Thanks Bush, you asshole.
